Optical Filter Shop’s visible (VIS) bandpass filters select the transmitted spectrum by both destructive and constructive interference at the boundaries between low and high index dielectric layers. Several cavities may be combined to produce a sharper cut-off and to alter the shape of the passband. These filters transmit both shorter blue and longer red visible wavelengths while reflecting the central green wavelengths.
Our VIS filters commonly use two-, three- or four-cavity designs, depending on the required specifications. Absorbing and reflecting layers are also included in the stack to block the transmission of unwanted wavelengths over a broad spectrum from near UV to far IR.
The scientific and industrial applications that our VIS bandpass filters evaluate include:
- OEM imaging and sensing.
- Machine vision.
- Biomedical fluorescence.
- LED trim filters.
- Multispectral photodiodes and imagers.
- Scientific instrumentation.
VIS Bandpass Optical Filter Options
Our VIS bandpass optical filter’s 400-700nm range is within the responsitivity of most silicon detectors. VIS bandpass filters can mix or match other filter designs to enhance performance and efficiency in many applications. Optical Filter Shop’s versatile OEM designs use multiple coatings on the same substrate to increase the filter’s weight, size and overall performance.
Several options compatible with our VIS bandpass filters include:
- Anti-reflective coatings: Filters with anti-reflective coatings enhance contrast, increase transmission and eliminate ghost images.
- Patterned bandpass filters: Optical Filter Shop’s patterned interference filter coatings can help modify phototransistors, photodiodes and CMOS sensors.
- Dichroic beamsplitters: This feature can split a broad spectrum of light into reflected and transmitted components.
- Excitation filter: Excitation designs block out all light source wavelengths except for the fluorophore excitation range.
- Emission filters: An emission filter allows fluorescence from the sample to reach the sensor while blocking unwanted traces of excitation light.
VIS bandpass filters provide a wide array of benefits and advantages in both the scientific and industrial sectors. Several examples include the following:
- They furnish lifetime performance with no aging or fading.
- VIS bandpass filters provide both high transmission and low absorption.
- They provide spectral stability for indoor and outdoor use.
- VIS filters are available in various standard and custom colors.
- They provide long-lasting support for lasers, high-output lamps and LEDs.
- VIS filters are customizable to OEM specs.
Purchasing Custom VIS Bandpass Filters
Multiple bandpass filters can be micro-patterned for multispectral imaging and sensing applications with potential combinations, including UV and visible bands on a standard sensor. In addition to customized coatings, we manufacture the optics to fit your application in specific substrates, shapes and sizes.
Customization options of our bandpass filters include:
- Bandpass width and position.
- Blocking level and range.
- Collaborative device engineering.
- Pixel-scale filter arrays.
- Application-specific imagers and photodiodes.
- Wafer-level coatings.
At Optical Filter Shop, we make ordering custom filters easy. Just follow these three simple steps:
- Select your filter: We have an inventory of over 400 different types of filters.
